A blog article can include multiple elements and be fully customized. This article covers the following topics:
- Create a blog article
- Formatting options
- Set publishing settings for an article
- Other article settings
Create a blog article
To write your first article, go to Website > Smart pages > Blog Page.
If this menu doesn't appear, you'll need to enable it in your Settings. For more information, see the article: Create and manage blog pages
Click the New Article button and you're ready to go!
A blog article is made up of a cover photo or image (optional), a title, and the article body.
Below are some formatting options available for your article content.
Formatting options
Customize article text
You're on the article creation page.
Click the text field labeled "Place your title here..." and the placeholder text will clear so you can enter your title.
Then click the text field labeled "Continue here as inspiration strikes..." and replace the placeholder text with your own content.
An options panel appears on the left when you're in the text area. It lets you customize your text by adjusting its style (bold, italic), alignment (center, left, or right), and by inserting links, headings or subheadings, bulleted lists or numbered lists, line breaks, indentation, images, videos, and more.
You can move this panel by drag and drop — just click the 3 dots at the top of the panel.
Apply a color to text
The color you've chosen for your website theme can be applied to your text.
To do this:
- Click on the text block of your choice to select it;
- At the bottom of the screen, click the colored arrow (p, h2 or h3 depending on the text type):
- In the window that opens, enable Text Color and click Apply:
Please note: the available color and font are determined by your website theme. This means you can't choose a different color (other than the default black) or a different font for your articles without changing the theme. To modify your website theme, see our article: Customize your website theme
Add an image
To make your articles more engaging, you can insert images directly into them.
To add an image, click the image icon in the customization panel.
Upload the image
A panel will open prompting you to insert an image. Click Upload to select the photo you want. Once it's loaded, click Insert:
Once added to your article, you can resize it to whatever size you need.
Recommended image size for an article
For the best display quality, we recommend using images that are 1200 px wide and 628 px tall. Slightly smaller images are also acceptable.
Your image meets the recommended size (1200x628 or larger)
In this case, inside the article, the main image will span the full width of the page. The image will be cropped vertically to keep the article content easily accessible.
On the news listing page, regardless of the template chosen, the image will fit the design perfectly.
Your image does not meet the recommended size criteria.
In this case, the main image will appear at a reduced size inside the article.
If your image is too small, the layout of your news listing page may not look its best.
Position images and videos
Images and videos are centered on your page by default. However, you can reposition them anywhere in your article — higher, lower, or to the left or right of a text block. To do this, click and hold the image with your mouse, then drag it to the desired position, such as to the right of the text.
These are just a few of the options available to customize your articles. Feel free to explore more through the customization panel!
