Your newsletter is valuable to your community β so why not make it easy for as many people as possible to subscribe?
Springly lets blog visitors subscribe to your newsletter with ease, using a pop-up system on your pages. Here's how it works.
Enabling newsletter sign-ups
If you publish blog articles, practical tips, or other relevant resources related to your nonprofit's mission, chances are your readers would also enjoy your newsletter.
It's the perfect opportunity to kill two birds with one stone β let visitors subscribe to your newsletter right while they're browsing.
From blog articles
To enable or disable newsletter sign-ups on your blog pages, go to Website > Blog and open the Settings tab.
You can then toggle it "ON" or "OFF" to enable or disable the sign-up option. When enabled, a banner and a pop-up will appear on your blog pages.
You'll then need to fill in the following information:
- Pop-up frequency (in days): once this number of days has passed, the pop-up will appear again for the same visitor;
- Mailing List: choose a mailing list (defined in Emailing > Lists) to which you'll send this newsletter. This list may or may not be linked to your community. Click here to learn more;
- + Options (optional): check Add to community to automatically add new subscribers to your Community.
From the header or footer of your website
You can also offer newsletter sign-ups in the header or footer of your website. To do this, go to Website > Settings & Theme, then click the section of your site where you want to add the newsletter sign-up.
From the header
From the header, click "Click here to show/hide editable elements" then click the block "Home page images - Banner with text, buttons, or a newsletter sign-up" > Click to edit.
Note: depending on the theme chosen for your website, this block may or may not be available. To learn how to change your site's theme, see our article: Customizing your website theme. If it's not available, you can always add this option in the footer.
After clicking the block, options will appear below it. Check "Newsletter sign-up", select the mailing list to assign new subscribers to, and choose whether to add them to the community (via the + Options button).
If you choose to add these people to your Community, all the information required to add them to the community will be collected, and they will count toward the contacts included in your Springly subscription. To learn more: Adding a person to your Community
Don't forget to click the Save button at the top of the page after making your changes.
From the footer
The process is exactly the same from the footer, and you'll find the same options there.
Managing new subscribers
Now that sign-ups are enabled, you need to decide how new newsletter subscribers will be added to your database.
Here are your options:
- During setup (via blog pages or the website), choose an existing mailing list to assign new subscribers to;
- Check "Add to community" if you want new newsletter subscribers to be automatically added to your community. In that case, all the information required to add them to the community will be collected, and they will count toward the contacts included in your Springly subscription.
You can manage your lists that are not linked to the community from Emailing > Lists.
Pop-up and banner appearance
You've enabled newsletter sign-ups on your blog pages β great! But what will this actually look like for your blog visitors?
At the bottom of each blog page, visitors will see a banner inviting them to enter their email address to subscribe to your nonprofit's newsletter.
Once a visitor has scrolled through most of the page, a pop-up will also appear on their screen, giving the sign-up even more visibility.
The pop-up appearance matches your website's theme. The button color is the one you defined for your website's buttons.
Now there's no reason for your blog visitors to miss out on your (excellent) newsletter. Get ready for new subscribers β and all the reach that comes with them!
