NFC (Near Field Communication) is a contactless technology used for mobile payments, badge scanning, and quick file sharing. Not all smartphones support this feature. Here's how to check if yours does.
🔍 Step 1: Check your phone's settings
The easiest way is to search for the NFC option in your device settings:
On Android:
-
Open the Settings app.
Type “NFC” in the search bar.
If an option such as “NFC,” “Contactless payment,” or “Quick connect” appears, your phone supports NFC.
-
Turn on NFC if it isn't already enabled.
On iPhone:
All models from the iPhone XS onward support NFC for payments, but this option doesn't appear in Settings — it's enabled automatically by compatible apps.
📱 Step 2: Check your phone model's specs
If you're not sure of your phone's exact model or its capabilities:
Find your phone's full model name (Settings > About phone).
Search online:
"[Model name] + specs" or "NFC support".-
Check reliable sources such as:
The manufacturer's official website (Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, etc.)
🧠Good to know
NFC availability can vary by regional version of the same phone model (e.g., a model sold in Europe may have NFC while the version sold in India does not).
-
NFC is required for features such as:
Contactless payments (Google Pay, Apple Pay…)
Reading transit cards or access badges
Quick pairing with Bluetooth devices
❓What happens if NFC is not enabled?
If NFC is not enabled, you'll still be able to open the app,
but when you try to confirm the amount using the keypad, nothing will happen,
because we cannot process the payment without NFC.
❓NFC is enabled, but I'm still stuck
In most cases, this is because your phone isn't secured properly. The most common issue is that your device doesn't have a lock screen passcode set up.
Here's how to check and fix this:
