Want to offer discounts on your Membership Campaigns, Events, or Product Sales? This article walks you through how to enable the feature and covers the 3 types of discounts:
- Enable the feature
- Discounts based on number of participants
- Discounts based on the Buyer
- Case-by-case discounts
This page compiles the most common discount scenarios used by our nonprofit clients, along with step-by-step solutions for setting up your form correctly. Find the scenario that matches your needs and follow the guide!
Enable the feature
The discount feature is not enabled by default. To use it, you first need to enable the feature by going to Settings > Forms and ticketing.
Once enabled, you can offer Buyers and participants automatic or manual discounts.
Note: Discounts can be applied to Membership Campaigns, Events, and Product Sales, but not to Donation Campaigns.
Discounts based on number of participants
Overview
The participant-based discount system lets you offer tiered pricing that scales with the number of Registrants.
Here’s an example: you set up an online Membership Campaign and want to offer a “family” rate. If 2 people sign up together, they receive a 20% discount on the total membership payment.
How it works
- Go to the configuration page of your form or ticketing event;
- once there, navigate to Step 2 - Pricing to manage your pricing options;
- set up your base pricing tiers;
- click Apply a discount.
Fill in the discount description, the type (in this case, “Number of participants”), the discount rate or amount (here, 20%), and the minimum number of Registrants required to trigger the discount (here, 2).
- Click Confirm.
Your discount is now configured: any membership Sign-up covering at least 2 people will automatically receive a 20% discount.
Going further
Offering a 20% discount for 2 participants and 30% for 3 participants
To do this, simply set up 2 separate discounts: one at 20% for 2 participants and one at 30% for 3 participants. Springly will automatically apply the correct discount rate.
Can discounts be combined?
No, discounts cannot be combined. If a Buyer qualifies for 2 discounts on a single purchase, Springly will automatically apply the most favorable one.
Discounts based on the Buyer
Overview
Use case
The automatic discount system lets you offer reduced pricing for specific types of people.
For example, you set up ticketing for an Event and want to offer a “member” rate: if someone is logged in as a Member, they receive a $5 discount on the total payment.
Conditions for applying the “certain members” discount
The discount system checks the Buyer’s profile to determine whether a discount applies. The Buyer is the only logged-in person at the time of purchase — participants are not.
When a discount uses the certain members option, only the Buyer’s membership status matters. For example, if the Buyer is a Member, non-member participants will also benefit from the discount.
For the discount to apply, the Buyer’s group membership must already be recorded in their profile before the transaction. This means they must be logged in and have created their account before registering for the Event.
How it works
Follow the same steps described above. When configuring the discount, select Certain people - Members.
You can also switch the discount unit from % to $.
In practice, it will look like this:
Make sure to click Confirm and then save your form.
Case-by-case discounts
Overview
Springly also lets you handle discounts that don’t follow a fixed rule.
Example: You want to offer a goodwill discount to a specific person and apply a 20% reduction to their payment.
How it works
Case-by-case discounts are only available when manually adding a person — they cannot be applied through online Sign-ups made by participants.
To apply a discount to a transaction:
- go to your forms page (Memberships, Events, or Product Sales);
- on the form of your choice, click Manage registrants / members / buyers (depending on the form type);
- click + Add a registrant;
- fill in the Registrant’s information, then check Apply a custom discount (per person) and select the discount amount or percentage;
- click Continue to complete the Sign-up.
