In most cases, failed payments are the result of a decline from your bank. We recommend contacting your bank directly to find out why your transaction was not approved.
Common reasons for payment failures
Your bank may block a payment for many reasons. Here are the most common ones:
- Your card is suspended.
- Your card has been blocked after multiple failed payment attempts.
- Your bank's fraud detection system flagged suspicious activity and blocked your card.
- Your account does not have sufficient funds.
- You (or a family member) reported this card as stolen. You will need to wait for your new card to make a payment.
- The purchase amount exceeds your authorized spending limit.
- If you are traveling abroad, your bank may be blocking transactions until you notify them of your trip.
- Your card does not support online purchases.
This list is not exhaustive, so contacting your bank is the best way to get more details. In the meantime, you can also try paying with a different card.
Other common error explanations
What is a 3D Secure error? When does it happen?
3D Secure is a widely used two-factor authentication system that banks employ to prevent fraud on online payments.
If you receive this error message, it means the authentication was unsuccessful. Try again and make sure there are no typos and that your Caps Lock key is not turned on.
The 3D Secure authentication window often opens in a new tab or as a pop-up. If your browser has a pop-up blocker enabled, it may prevent the authentication from loading. Disable it and try again.
If the error persists after trying the above, contact your bank.
What is a CVV/CVC? What are CVV/CVC errors?
The CVV/CVC is the 3-digit security code found on the back of your payment card.
If you receive an error message related to the CVV/CVC, it most likely means there was a mistake when entering your card details during checkout.
Try again and carefully double-check your card details. It is also possible that the digits on your card have worn off over time and are hard to read. In that case, contact your bank or try a different card.
