Springly provides a default domain name for your website in the format "[your-org-name].assoconnect.com". However, you can set up your own domain name (without the ".assoconnect.com" part). This article walks you through the available options for configuring a domain name for your Springly website. It covers the following topics:
Key concepts to know
Domain Name
A domain name is the address you type into a browser's navigation bar to access a website.
A web address is made up of the following parts:
- A prefix (subdomain) β for example: "www" (world wide web);
- A suffix (or extension) indicating the type or location of the site, such as ".org" or ".com";
- A second-level domain name, which is the part between the prefix (www.) and the extension (.org, .com, etc.).
The domain name as a whole refers to the combination of the second-level domain name and its extension. For example, Springly's domain name is "springly.com".
A domain name lets you give your website a custom, recognizable address that reflects your organization's identity. It also helps improve your site's visibility in search engine results.
Registrar and web host
It's important to distinguish between these two types of providers β especially since the same company can sometimes act as both:
- A registrar is a domain registration company responsible for reserving and managing domain names. Well-known registrars include GoDaddy, Namecheap, and Google Domains;
- A web host manages the servers where the services associated with a domain name are stored (website, email, etc.).
Domain name management options
You can choose from several options, covering:
- Purchasing a domain name;
- Transferring a domain name;
- Configuring a domain name
These options are summarized in the following decision chart:
Regardless of the option you choose, you will always need to log in to your platform to confirm your request or complete the process.
Accessing the domain name management page
From your admin area, go to Website > Settings and theme. Then click Domain Name.
You will then be taken to the page showing the different domain name management options.
Purchasing a domain name
When using Springly to build your website, you have two options:
1. Purchase your own domain name β You buy the domain name yourself, or use one you already own. You can then choose to have us handle the configuration, or set it up on your own;
2. Let Springly handle it for you β Springly will purchase and manage a domain name on your behalf for $20 per year. We will also take care of the domain name configuration.
The process for purchasing a domain name is explained in more detail in the article Getting a domain name.
Transferring your domain name to Springly
You can transfer management of an existing domain name starting from $20 per year.
The domain will be moved from your current registrar to Springly's registrar (Gandi), and we will handle the configuration. The process can take up to 15 days.
With this option, you will no longer have direct access to manage your domain name yourself.
We are unable to configure email, htaccess, or specific page redirects. Please also note that your existing settings (email/redirects/other) will be overwritten by Gandi's configuration.
Configuring your domain name
Configuring your domain name β through its DNS Zone settings β points the domain to the specific address of your Springly website.
- Springly can handle the configuration for you. This service is billed at $50;
- You can also configure it yourself at no charge.
We strongly advise against configuring the domain yourself without prior experience, as an incorrect setting can take your website offline.
If you run into any issues, please contact your domain registrar or submit a configuration request to us (paid option). Please note that we do not provide configuration services for registrars such as AMEN, ONLINE, or BlueHost.
