You've set up ticketing on Springly. Registrants have signed up and received their e-tickets.
Each ticket includes a QR code you can use to verify its validity at the door. You can scan these QR codes using your smartphone camera, your computer's webcam, or a barcode scanner. Here's how:
- Why use ticket scanning?
- Where to find the scanning tool and how to use it
- Who can scan e-tickets?
- How to identify already-scanned tickets in the registrant list
Why use ticket scanning?
Organizing an event comes with all kinds of challenges. Getting people to show up is sometimes one of them — or, on the flip side, keeping uninvited guests out of a private event. Either way, organizers almost always need an accurate headcount, whether for logistics or post-event reporting.
Instead of printing out multiple registrant lists and reconciling them after the fact, scanning tickets in real time saves you time on the spot.
The planet will thank you too!
Where to find the scanning tool and how to use it
From your administrator dashboard, go to the "Events" module. Click the "Manage" button for the event you want.
Go to the "Distribution" tab.
Click the "Scan Tickets" button. You'll land on the scanning options page. Select your preferred scanning method: "Scan by Smartphone" or "Scan by Barcode Scanner".
Scan by Smartphone
This option uses your smartphone's camera to scan tickets. Here's how to use it:
- Open the scanning menu page on a mobile phone.
- Click "Scan Tickets" — the phone's camera will launch automatically.
- To start checking tickets, hold the smartphone over the QR code.
The smartphone screen will display whether the e-ticket is valid or not.
The smartphone option is more convenient and flexible — it lets you move around freely.
Computer
From a computer, after clicking "Scan by Smartphone", the screen shows the live feed from your webcam. Simply hold the e-ticket's QR code up to the webcam and you're good to go!
If your camera doesn't activate automatically, make sure you've allowed your browser to access your webcam (look for the camera icon in the top right of your browser's navigation bar). Also check that your webcam is turned on and working.
Scan by Barcode Scanner.
The "Scan by Barcode Scanner" option lets you scan your event's e-tickets using a handheld barcode scanner (we recommend this device). Just point the scanner at the ticket's QR code.
You can also manually enter the ticket number for manual verification.
Who can scan e-tickets?
Anyone with the scanning link can scan tickets.
We recommend sending it by text message to anyone who will be scanning with a smartphone.

How to identify already-scanned tickets in the registrant list
After your event, you can review which tickets were scanned and which weren't.
Go to the "Registrants" tab, click the "Columns to Display" icon, and check the "Ticket Scanned" box to add that column to your registrant list.
