How approval-based sign-up works
When approval-based sign-up is enabled, visitors to your site can create an account from the login page. However, they won't have immediate access to their account or any private content on the site โ you'll need to approve their sign-up first.
This gives you control over who joins your community โ which affects your subscription's contact quota โ and lets you review each person's information before approving them.
You'll receive an email every week notifying you of any accounts pending approval, unless they've already been approved in the meantime.
Enable approval-based sign-up
- Go to the Website > Settings & Theme module;
- At the bottom of the page, in the Other site options section, click the Sign-up Page & Profile button;
- You'll see three options under "Create a sign-up page?" Select "Yes, with approval-based sign-up";
- You can then choose which information to collect during account creation. These fields are based on the settings defined in Community > Settings. For more details, see our dedicated article.
- Save. Your changes have been applied.
Submit a sign-up request
Anyone visiting your website can sign up by clicking the "Log in" button, located at the top or bottom of the page.
To learn how to display it, check out this article: Add or remove the member space login button from your website
On the login page, the person needs to click Create an account.
On the next step, they fill in the information fields you defined earlier under Website > Settings & Theme > Sign-up Page & Profile (see above).
Once they've filled in their details, they click "Create my account". A message appears letting them know their request is pending approval.
Now it's your turn!
Approve pending sign-ups
Every week, you'll receive an email notification (sent to the address registered as the platform Administrator) listing any pending sign-up requests โ unless you've already approved those accounts in the meantime, in which case no email will be sent.
To find sign-ups awaiting approval, go to Community > Contacts: a "Persons pending approval" section will appear above your existing contacts.
Check one or more pending persons. You can then:
- Contact the person;
- Approve their request directly;
- Decline or archive the request.
The eye icon (Detail) lets you review the information the person submitted. You can use it to reach out if you need any additional details before approving their request.
Once approved, the person will join your community and gain access to their information through your site. They will also count toward your subscription's contact limit.
