When someone outside your nonprofit signs up through a membership, a profile is automatically created for them in your Community (contact database).
To let someone sign up and create an account in your Community through a membership, you first need to create a Membership Campaign. Learn how to create a Membership Campaign here.
Online sign-up
You have created a campaign with online sign-up enabled and its status is set to "Published":
Anyone with a link to your campaign and/or visiting your website (depending on the publishing options you selected) can then become a member online.
During sign-up, they can choose to log in, create an account, or continue without creating one.
- If the person already has an account (they are part of your Community and have already set a password), they can log in and the membership will be applied to their existing account;
- If the person doesn't have an account, they can create one: their profile will be added to your Community and the membership will appear on that profile. They can also set a password to access their profile and make future purchases on your site;
- If the person wants to continue without creating an account, a profile will still be created for them and the membership will be linked to it — you will find them in your member database. However, since they won't have set a password, they won't be aware that they have a profile on your platform.
If someone already in your Community signs up without logging in, you may end up with duplicate profiles — since every new sign-up creates a new profile unless an existing one is recognized via login. To learn more about managing duplicates, see this article.
These profiles will then appear in your member list. Learn how to view your member list here.
Offline sign-up
You can also create new member profiles through an offline Membership Campaign. To do so:
- go to Campaigns > Memberships;
- on the campaign of your choice, click the "Manage members" icon:
- click the "+ Add a member" button:
To learn more about adding a new member, read this article.
During sign-up, you can link the member to an existing contact.
In the next step, you can also specify whether this is a new contact or an existing one.
Springly will automatically suggest names similar to the one you entered, in case of a typo. If this is a new member, make sure to select "New contact".
Once the membership sign-up is complete, if you selected "New contact", a profile will be created in your Community.
