A check you deposited has been returned. Here's how to record it in the platform — it's quick and easy.
Note: a check can only be marked as returned if it has already been included in a deposit slip. Otherwise, there's no way to have received that information in the first place.
Find the returned check via the deposit slip
Go to Accounting > Book entry > Deposit slip and open the Check History tab.
Locate the check you want to mark as returned using the search filters.
Once you find the check, click "Mark check as returned" on the right side of the row.
Find the returned check via the book entry
Alternatively, navigate directly to the book entry.
On the payment entry, click "Mark this check as returned".
Clicking either button automatically handles the following for you:
- A returned check book entry is created so your bank reconciliation stays accurate.
- The entry is reset to unpaid status and becomes an outstanding receivable, which you can track from your Liabilities / Receivables page.
This means you do not need to void the entire deposit slip just because one check in it was returned.
You can now reach out to the person to request a new check.
