Although labor unions are governed by a specific law (the Law of 1884), their operations and legal status are very similar to those of nonprofits defined by the Law of 1901.
For a union to collect online payments through Springly, certain conditions must be met to ensure compliance and proper management of the funds collected.
E-wallet Verification Requirements
To withdraw funds collected online, the union's e-wallet must be verified on Springly.
In addition to verifying the identity of the legal representative and the bank account, verification requires confirming the organization itself as a legal entity.
This is done using a SIRET number, which proves the union's legal existence, or an RNA number โ the identifier assigned to the entity in the French National Association Registry.
How to obtain a SIRET number?
The SIRET number is assigned by INSEE (France's national statistics institute) when the nonprofit or entity registers, provided it carries out an economic activity.
This number is essential for all administrative and financial processes.
If your union does not yet have a SIRET number, you will need to:
- Register your union as a nonprofit: If your union does not have legal status, setting up a nonprofit is straightforward. You can get help with this process through our dedicated offer: Create a nonprofit.
- Apply for a SIREN and SIRET number from INSEE: Once the nonprofit is registered, you can obtain the numbers needed to verify your account. Good news: SIREN and SIRET numbers are typically assigned very quickly. ๐
Administrative Process Timeline
If your union operates informally without legal status, we recommend registering as a nonprofit first, before creating your e-wallet and collecting funds on Springly.
The registration process with the authorities can take some time, depending on the time of year (e.g., delays tend to be longer in the summer) and the region.
If the registration takes longer than expected, you may not be able to complete your e-wallet verification within the required timeframe. In that case, your account will be frozen and collected funds will be refunded to payers.
