This article contains a non-exhaustive list of questions we've received during webinars and support requests about the request for membership feature.
This article focuses on questions related to enabling the feature and managing Membership Campaigns with membership requests.
Before diving in, we recommend reading this article, which covers how the feature works in general. Some answers are already there and won't be repeated here. For other questions on this topic, visit this section of our Help Center: Managing Requests for Membership
This article answers the following questions:
- How do I handle new memberships (with requests) and renewals (without requests)?
- Can I duplicate an immediate membership campaign as a request for membership campaign?
- Does this feature require an active Springly website?
- I don't see the "Members to Approve" tab in my campaign. The feature is enabled. How is that possible?
- Does this work for Membership Campaigns created within an advanced group?
How do I handle new memberships (with requests) and renewals (without requests)?
Let's say you have two types of memberships: new memberships on one hand, and renewals from existing members (which don't require approval) on the other.
If you want to keep them separate, you can use the Immediate Membership module for renewals and the Request for Membership module for new memberships.
This does require creating two separate campaigns (one for each type). If you use only a "Request for Membership" campaign, everyone will need to be approved before being recognized as a Member.
Can I duplicate an immediate membership campaign as a request for membership campaign?
No — the two features differ in both configuration and how they work. You'll need to create a Request for Membership campaign from scratch.
Once created, Request for Membership campaigns can be duplicated.
Does this feature require an active Springly website?
No, you don't need an active Springly website to use this feature (the same applies to other collection campaigns: Events and Product Sales).
If the Website module is not enabled, you can still share your campaign via a link.
You can share a URL link by email, on social media, etc., or embed the campaign on an external website using an iframe link (learn more).
I don't see the "Members to Approve" tab in my campaign. The feature is enabled. How is that possible?
If the "Members to Approve" tab is not visible (when you click the three-dot menu and then "Edit" for your campaign), you're most likely in a standard Membership Campaign (immediate membership) rather than a Request for Membership campaign.
When you create a new campaign with the feature enabled, you'll be able to choose whether or not to activate the Request for Membership option.
Does this work for Membership Campaigns created within an advanced group?
Yes, this feature is also available for advanced groups. Simply enable it in the group's features to get started.
